The Saudi Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition

The objectives of the Saudi Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (SASPGHAN) are:

1. To develop a scientific and professional foundation for the practice of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

2.  To promote and encourage its members towards high quality research, academics and clinical services to further their relevant interests and the goals of the society.

3. To provide a forum to facilitate the exchange  of scientific ideas and debate professional issues between different institutions and professional bodies, both nationally and internationally.

4. To provide necessary support and infrastructure, to institutions and bodies in order to enhance and develop their professional standards in the field.

5. To develop benchmarks and guidelines, which will help monitor and measure the standards of practice in the specialty.

6. To strive for better health education and awareness amongst the public about the specialty.

 The Pediatric Gastroenterology Group (PGG) was founded in the year 2000 within the Saudi Gastroenterology Association (SGA). The Founders of the PGG (by alphabetical order) are:

Through membership in  the Board of Directors of the SGA and regular meetings of the Group, PGG members not only participated in various activities of the SGA such as organization of conferences and symposia and the foundation and editorship of the official SGA publication (The Saudi Journal of Gastroenterology). In 2007, with the increasing number of pediatric gastroenterologists, the Group decided to establish a society independent from the SGA. A interim Founding Committee headed by Prof. Mohammad El Mouzan was appointed to communicate with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialities to establish  this society.
In 2008, the Saudi Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (SASPGHAN) was officially founded  under the umbrella of the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties by the Board of Trustees administrative order No 17/A/29 dated 7/4/1429 H  (13/4/2008).
